Exclusively for You: Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Stop pretending to be innocent

✧༝┉˚*❋ ❋*˚┉༝✧

This noon, as scheduled, Song Li and Jin Shiwen had lunch together.

Jin Shiwen had reserved her favorite Hong Kong-style tea restaurant, generously making time to accompany her alone, and he even personally drove her back to the hospital after the meal.

His phone was placed on the car's dock, and he received a call halfway. Jin Shiwen casually answered and put it on speaker.

The person on the other end asked where he was.

Song Li found the voice somewhat familiar, probably one of the wealthy young men she often encountered at dinners.

Jin Shiwen replied, "I just had dinner with my girlfriend."

"Shiwen, I just met Aunt Jin. She made a reservation for your engagement banquet at the Yuelai Hotel." The man's tone was hard to understand. "You're serious about that girl, aren't you? Why rush into marriage? Can't the guys have fun together anymore in the future?"

Song Li was taken aback, realizing she was the main topic of conversation.

"And another thing, your girlfriend is exceptionally beautiful, far surpassing those average-looking fans. But I must advise you, the daughter of Langshi Technology's chairman has been pursuing you for months. If you two can make it work, you'll get seven-figure kickbacks every year for your company. If you give this up, there won't be a better option!"

The man's voice was somewhat high-pitched, and when he raised his voice, it became grating. He spoke rapidly, trying earnestly to guide Jin Shiwen onto the right path.

Song Li's fingers tapped her phone case.

She had just learned that her boyfriend was being relentlessly pursued by some rich heiress, and it sounded like they had quite a frequent interaction.

'She invited you to the engagement banquet.'

Without giving the other person a chance to speak further, Jin Shiwen directly ended the call.

The surroundings fell silent, and no one spoke.

A few minutes later, they reached the hospital, and it was inconvenient to turn around here. Song Li asked Jin Shiwen to stop the car, and she walked over herself.

The black Cayenne parked on the side of the road.

"I'm leaving; be careful on the road," Song Li didn't mention the phone call, unfastened her seatbelt, and prepared to get out, but Jin Shiwen stopped her.

'Li Li.'

Song Li turned back, 'Hmm?'

"I've got nothing to do with her." Jin Shiwen was dressed in a charcoal-gray flannel suit, with striking looks, clearly someone with a high social standing.

He spoke fluently, as if dealing with girls was effortless for him.

After a moment's thought, Song Li spoke softly, "I know."

Jin Shiwen looked at her, "Are you angry?"

She was momentarily surprised and then managed a faint smile, "He was praising me; why would I be angry?"

Men were like that; if you said it was fine, they'd take it seriously, but you couldn't let on that their thoughtfulness went beyond the surface.

Jin Shiwen naturally didn't dwell on it further, and with a tone to placate her, he asked, "When is the wedding photo shoot?"

"Next Friday."

"Alright, I'll clear my schedule that day."

At that time, Song Li naively believed that Jin Shiwen was willing to marry her, and that there was genuine affection between them.

She nodded and said okay.

A well-behaved and obedient girl is always likable. Jin Shiwen curved his lips, reached out to rub her hair, his palm sliding down, and he grasped her by the back of her neck, bringing her under control.

A shadow fell in front of them, and the rich aroma of cypress-scented perfume mixed with the man's proximity entered her nostrils.

However, in the next moment, the ringtone suddenly rang, accompanied by a buzzing vibration, instantly shattering the silence.

The farewell kiss ended before it began.

It was a call from Chen Danyu.

Song Li immediately answered, "Teacher Chen."

"Where are you? Hurry back!"

Chen Danyu urgently called her to return, and Song Li was afraid it might be something important, so she quickly got out of the car and rushed to the hospital.

As soon as she entered the hospital ward office, she heard a series of harsh criticism.

"The hospital regulations clearly state that the resident physicians should make rounds in the morning and afternoon. Mr. Sheng's room has been unattended for so long. Is this your idea of management? Your idea of work?!" Dean Wan stood with his hands on his hips in the middle of the aisle, sternly speaking.

When someone was being reprimanded in the office, Chen Danyu's face looked particularly unpleasant. She tried to explain, "I've told the responsible person..."

Before she could finish speaking, she saw Song Li and her face turned dark.

"Song Li, why hasn't Room 901 been visited?"

Song Li roughly understood the situation, but she was still confused.

"Teacher Chen, it was you who..."

Without waiting for her to finish, Chen Danyu decisively interrupted, speaking angrily, "You've been at this hospital for quite some time. Do I need to remind you every day? How did you get your certificate from the Beijing Medical College?!"

After Chen Danyu finished her harsh words, the office fell into dead silence.

After a while, Song Li took a deep breath.

In the past, she didn't argue with Chen Danyu to avoid causing trouble and to gain more experience, which she was willing to do. However, she wasn't a public punching bag, and she didn't need to take the blame.

"I'll go now."

Calmly, Song Li removed her coat, put on a white lab coat, retrieved a folder, and when passing in front of Chen Danyu, she paused for half a minute.

"Teacher Chen, I dare not question Mr. Sheng's dignity. If there's a next time, just let me know directly. I'll ask instead of keeping the patient's needs unclear."

Chen Danyu hadn't expected this usually obedient girl to have the courage to confront her. Her face alternated between green and white. "You..."

Dean Wan, after hearing this, first glared at Chen Danyu, "Are you just going to stand there? Don't you need to apologize and follow her!"

Five minutes later, Chen Danyu appeared at Room 901 with Song Li.

At that moment, it was Xu Yan who had opened the door, and Cheng Gui was talking to Sheng Muci by the French windows.

The bed was adjusted halfway up, and Sheng Muci raised one leg lazily against it. He held a cigarette between his fingers, occasionally taking a drag, savoring it.

When Xu Yan led the people into the room, Cheng Gui, plagued by his professional habit, started lecturing him, "Why can't you quit smoking? It's even worse. When your injury heals, you'll be suffocating yourself. You might as well let me..."

"Enough?" Sheng Muci interrupted with a warning glance.

In the next moment, he noticed the girl who entered the room last, and his impatient expression softened unintentionally.

Learning that they were here to apologize, Sheng Muci gave Xu Yan an inexplicable glance.

Xu Yan also looked puzzled.

Not long ago, he had wanted to call for Dr. Song, but the nurse's station was deserted. He ended up dialing the complaint hotline on the counter, without thinking much.

"Mr. Sheng, I sincerely apologize. Due to a lack of understanding of the situation by Dr. Song Li in advance, she didn't make her rounds in a timely manner. I have severely reprimanded her and deducted her corresponding salary for this month. If she makes another mistake, our hospital will not cover it and will certainly impose strict penalties."

Chen Danyu nodded with lowered eyebrows, changing her attitude from her usual arrogance and said repeatedly to the man in the hospital bed, "Today, I brought her here on behalf of the Inpatient Department to apologize sincerely. I hope you can forgive us."

In just a few words, she completely absolved herself of responsibility.

Song Li stood silently behind, not uttering a word.

Young people have no qualifications or strong backing, and she deeply understood that they have no say in society.

But Chen Danyu forcefully nudged her elbow and said, "Say something! Are you mute?"

Song Li was slender and much lighter than Chen Danyu. She was caught off guard by the push and struggled to maintain her balance.

She staggered half a step backward and barely steadied herself.

This scene did not escape Sheng Muci's eyes. He lifted his eyelashes, and his eyes were dark, devoid of any trace of amusement.

"Who are you scolding in my presence?"

He spoke in a chilly tone, making Chen Danyu shiver. She immediately spoke with a good tone, "It was my oversight. I disturbed your peace. I'll reprimand her again later."

Reprimand again.

These words were truly unpleasant.

Sheng Muci remained calm, "What did she do wrong?"

"She... she was negligent in her work, causing you inconvenience..." Chen Danyu stammered, her hands nervously clenched in front of her, then she glared at Song Li, reminding her in a low voice, "What are you standing there for? Apologize to Mr. Sheng!"

Song Li bit her lip and was about to speak, but the man beat her to it.

"Is it working hours now?"

Song Li was stunned and looked at the hospital bed. After a moment of contemplation, she fell silent.

Chen Danyu saw this and quickly replied, "No, it's not."

"So you came here to make a fuss. Had too much cold medicine, didn't you?" Sheng Mu Ci's emotions were calm, but each word carried a sting.

Genuine Beijing-style scolding.

In simpler terms, he was calling her a fool.

Chen Danyu's head buzzed like a big bronze bell struck by a wooden mallet, and the heavy, reverberating sound resonated through every nerve in her body.

After all, there was no one who didn't fear the third Sheng.

I know his temper too well, Xu Yan and Cheng Gui exchanged glances, and both remained silent in agreement.

Sheng Mu Ci looked at Xu Yan and said, "Did I ask you to invite someone?"

"No, Third Brother," Xu Yan replied obediently.

"Why did you let her in, then?" Sheng Mucí furrowed his brows. "Am I so free that I must listen to everyone's nonsense?"

With that, Chen Danyu quickly apologized and then turned and left, looking embarrassed.

Song Li felt puzzled and out of the loop, but the phrase 'Am I so free' caught her attention. She instinctively turned to follow Chen Danyu.

"Doctor Song."

Song Li stopped, turned, and saw the man looking directly into her eyes. She couldn't be sure if it was her imagination, but he seemed slightly warmer now compared to his previous coldness.

"Where are you going? Come back," Sheng Mu Ci calmly said.

'...'

Song Li thought for a moment, walked back to the bedside, and sincerely apologized, "I'm sorry for my mistake at work."

"Are you always like this?" He suddenly asked without a clear reason.

Song Li was puzzled. "Uh?"

Sheng Mu Ci clarified, "Getting bullied."

Song Li was momentarily lost for words. No one had ever asked her that question before. While she got along well with most medical staff, she lacked support in dealing with the bullying from Chen Danyu and Wan Yao.

Unable to answer right away, Song Li remained silent.

However, Sheng Mu Ci had seen people like Chen Danyu before, and with just a glance and a few words, he had a pretty good idea of the situation.

"If you're being bullied, you should fight back; otherwise, you'll endure unnecessary suffering," Sheng Mu Ci said while casually tapping the cigarette. He appeared indifferent and as if he was giving her advice offhand.

Song Li focused on his nonchalant words, blinking her eyes as if contemplating something.

This man didn't seem too intimidating and had a sense of justice.

"...Hmm," Song Li nodded lightly.

Having witnessed Chen Danyu being scolded, even though she didn't understand Sheng Mu Ci's intentions, it was like he had stood up for her.

In a way, it felt quite satisfying.

Without revealing her emotions, Song Li coughed softly and asked, "Mr. Sheng, do you want me to come for the daily rounds?"

Sheng Mu Ci glanced at her and said casually, "Not necessarily."

"?" Song Li had a feeling he was playing with her.

"If you're not available, just forget it." He lowered his gaze, biting the cigarette, and slowly finished the second half of the sentence, his voice slightly muffled.

Song Li was puzzled, with a thousand questions suddenly popping into her mind.

If that's the case, why did she just get scolded by Chen Danyu for no reason? Do all big shots act so capriciously?

Song Li didn't want to receive criticism for no reason again. Her gratitude from a minute ago vanished, and she pouted lightly, words slipping out unintentionally.

"Can you give me a clear answer?"

"Do you really want me to take charge?" He spoke, his voice slightly husky, bearing a hint of ambiguity.

She sounded slightly timid and subdued, with a touch of girlish softness in her voice, revealing a hint of resignation. She sounded somewhat like a young girl having a lovers' quarrel by the roadside, asking the other person, "Do you really like me or not?" The next sentence would probably be a breakup.

Sheng Mu Ci let out a faint smile, running his hand lazily through his disheveled hair.

His smile at this moment carried an indescribable meaning.

Song Li thought he misunderstood, trying to explain, "What I meant is..."

"Sure," Sheng Muci smiled, "you can take charge."

His voice, as if soaked in wine, had a natural ambiguity, with a hint of laziness, like a glass of wine swaying before you, making you slightly intoxicated.

Suddenly, their eyes met.

The other person's gaze was too sharp, and Song Li was flustered as she locked eyes with him. She lowered her eyelashes and turned to her blue folder, pretending to write something.

She maintained her usual tone and said, "Well, I'll come for rounds on time."

Sheng Mu Ci also replied with a "Hmm," leaning lazily against the bed, observing her.

The person before him had long, curled eyelashes, chestnut-colored eyes, like beautiful gemstones, clear and exquisite, with natural rosy lips.

She bore a striking resemblance to the young girl from many years ago.

"Abstain from sexual activity for three months," Song Li blurted out.

Sheng Mu Ci tilted his head, gazing at her for a while without responding.

In the midst of the long silence, Song Li halted her pen and slowly raised her eyes, meeting his gaze.

These eyes didn't convey emotions, but when they turned sharp, they could make your heart race. However, the corners of his eyes naturally arched, with a lazy and playful glint in his eyes, creating a peculiar illusion.

Perhaps he was nonchalant, but others had fallen into a mesmerizing whirlpool.

Inexplicably, Song Li felt a bit embarrassed under his gaze.

Even throughout her entire medical career, her sense of shame had never played tricks on her like this.

It was just medical advice, and Song Li wondered if she was being too straightforward. So, she tried a more subtle approach, "I mean... it's not good for your spine's healing. If you really can't avoid it, then you should be careful."

Hearing her stutter, Sheng Mu Ci chuckled mischievously, thinking, "Sister, your skin is so thin, how can you be a doctor?"

He raised an eyebrow with a playful tone, "Be careful of what?"

Sheng Mu Ci made no effort to hide his intention, and the suggestive tone was evident, but Song Li was increasingly tongue-tied.

At that moment, she really wished she could use her pen to point at him.

Posture, what else can you pay attention to? You look like this, don't you understand the importance of posture? Stop pretending to be innocent!

After a moment of silence inside the room, Song Li feigned calmness and said, "Mind your waist."

"Sure," Sheng Mu Ci replied, glancing down, smiling, and then looking at her. "Dr. Song."

"Uh?" She asked, puzzled.

He continued with a hint of a smile, "Where did I get a girlfriend from?"

In response, Song Li answered without hesitation, "I didn't say you had one, but I overheard your mom's call."

Sheng Mu Ci remained silent for a while. Suddenly, Song Li had an epiphany. Was he implying that he didn't have a girlfriend and, therefore, no possibility of a sexual relationship? She felt guilty for her biased assumption, blaming it on his charming but untrustworthy appearance.

Song Li began to feel somewhat uneasy. Another period of silence fell over the living room. Unexpectedly, just as they touched upon a sensitive topic, Xu Yan's phone rang loudly. Inside, he was already mourning Dr. Song.

After all, his third brother was not one to be gentle and considerate.

However, the man changed the tune and raised an eyebrow, saying, "You think I'm gone just from one phone call?"

He then added another twist, leaving Song Li baffled. "Do you think I've got a girlfriend now?"

Did you get a girlfriend in just one day? Kidnapping a girl is illegal!

Sheng Mu Ci casually bit his cigarette and trailed off, "I do..."

Two men sitting side by side near the floor-to-ceiling windows widened their eyes in disbelief, sharing a similarly astonished expression.

Three seconds later, someone slowly continued the sentence from behind, "It's not impossible."

Cheng Gui: "..."

Xu Yan: "..."

Cheng Gui silently took out his phone, typed a line, and handed it to the dumbfounded Xu Yan.

[Is this considered flirting or bullying the young lady?]

Xu Yan was also baffled and quickly grabbed his phone.

Lord Xu of North City: [Is it possible that the third brother is pick-up artisting Dr. Song?]

Lord Xu of North City: [Scumbag! 🙄🙄]

Under Cheng Gui's "You've gotten a little tired of living," look, Xu Yan swiftly erased all traces.

"Lord Xu of North City" has retracted a message.

"Lord Xu of North City" has retracted a message.

Lord Xu of North City: "San Ge (Third Brother) is really naughty, I like [hehe]."

Cheng Gui: "..."

Cheng Gui: "No eyes to see.jpg."

At this moment, Song Li gradually realized that this person might be deliberate. She looked embarrassed, murmuring softly, "Well, that's just the way it is."

She didn't say anything wrong.

What kind of person, full of mischief!

"Yes, yes!" Xu Yan, who can't keep his mouth shut, said sincerely, "Dr. Song, third brother's wound has split, and he said you touched it. Could you take a look?"
